The "K" in One K Foundation stands for "Kidney," but it symbolises much more. It signifies the power of unity, the strength of one decision, one act of love, one organ, and one change to transform lives. Our foundation serves as a reminder that monumental change starts with a single step, a single choice, and a single heartbeat of compassion.
We envision ourselves as more than just a Non-Profit Organisation; we are the architects of change, dedicated to reshaping and revolutionising the kidney and organ transplantation space, through education and awareness initiatives. Our Story
It Only Takes One: Transforming Lives Through "One" Single Act of Love
At the heart of the inspiring journey that is One K Foundation stands the remarkable story of Amanda Zungu, the foundation's Founder and Chief Visionary Officer, and her brother, Ndumiso Ngwabi, the organisation's Director and Chief Financial Officer. Their deeply personal odyssey birthed the foundation, rooted in a journey that traversed the valleys of adversity and ascended to the peaks of hope.
The genesis of One K Foundation was sparked by Ndumiso's battle with Lupus, an adversary that relentlessly attacked his kidneys, pushing him to the brink of kidney disease and eventual failure. The journey was arduous, the challenges relentless, but Amanda's unwavering love for her brother saw her extend the most profound gift one can offer - the gift of life itself. In a courageous act, she selflessly donated her kidney, a lifeline that granted Ndumiso a fresh lease on life.
But this was more than a tale of sibling sacrifice. It was an awakening, a call to action in the face of adversity. Amanda and Ndumiso bore witness to the shadows of the stigma that enveloped organ donation and the pervasive lack of awareness surrounding kidney disease. Their hearts ignited with a shared purpose - to shine a light on the transformative power of organ donation, to educate, to erase stigma, and to rally against the veil of ignorance that cloaked kidney disease and organ donation.
Thus, the One K Foundation emerged as a beacon of hope, a non-profit organisation forged through personal experience. At its core lay a mission to educate and raise awareness, to turn the spotlight onto kidney transplantation and the silent battles fought by those afflicted with kidney disease.
